Cat Sleeping Positions And What They Mean

Just like dogs, cats sleep in some crazy positions.

But did you know a cat’s preferred sleeping position can provide insight into how they are feeling?

Even though cats can literally sleep anywhere, it is not about where they sleep but the way they position their bodies.

On average cats will sleep 15-20 hours in a day, which means we can learn a lot by watching them sleep.

Discover more about the seven common cat sleeping positions below.

Cats who choose to sleep on their backs with their bellies up are confident and feel secure in their environment. The vulnerable position exposes the feline’s vital organs and is harder to jump up from, so cats who sleep this way have complete trust in their owners.

Friendly indoor cats are often seen napping this way. It is almost as if they are begging for a belly rub. … Read the rest

Breaking! More Than 100 Injured Donkeys Rescued From Slaughter For The Skin Trade In South Africa

Over 100 donkeys were recently rescued from being slaughtered for the barbaric skin trade by the National Council of Societies for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NSPCA), with assistance from the Mooi River SPCA.

As per a statement by The Donkey Sanctuary, which supports and works with the NSPCA to help end the cruel and unnecessary global skin trade, the rescued donkeys, including several young foals, were en route from South Africa to neighboring Lesotho; a country where there has been an escalation in the illegal skin trade for the production of ejiao.

“The incident appears to signal a shocking return of the donkey skin trade after almost 18 months of apparent inactivity,” said Marcelle Meredith, Executive Director of the NSPCA, further explaining that the organization has been investigating the donkey skin trade for more than five years. “The manner in which donkey skins are obtained is gut-wrenching, starting

Shelter Pets Get A Second Chance After Boarding Flights To Freedom

Every year, thousands of perfectly adoptable shelter pets die in Louisiana, where chronically overcrowded, underfunded shelters are often forced to resort to euthanasia. This tragic dilemma puts heartworm-positive dogs at particularly high risk, especially in shelters without the resources to treat this deadly (but curable) disease.

This tragic fate awaited Sammy, a Louisiana dog surrendered to the shelter when his family moved away. But even though Sammy was a very good boy and eager to find his new home, the rescued dog had heartworm disease, making Sammy more likely to be euthanized than find a new home.

Thankfully, Sammy’s fortunes changed when he landed a spot on one of our Flights to Freedom, which are conducted by Greater Good Charities, The Animal Rescue Site, Freekibble, and operated by Greater Good’s Good Flights … Read the rest

My wife and I had cats before we were married and we found good homes for them before we moved into our pet-resistant first apartment in Vancouver’s West End. A couple of years later, we moved to a rented house far from the city centre. We had often discussed whether or not to get a cat, but we traveled a lot and thought that might be unfair to a cat.

One spring morning, we were leaving for work and, sitting on the mat, was a stray cat. Being cat people we said “Good Morning,” told it to go home and went to work. When we got home, there was the cat sitting on the roof of the carport next door, harassed … Read the rest

I lost my dog Justice. Came home to an empty house. I had to get another dog. So I went to the shelter not far from where I worked.

I walked in, and this little dog started barking and barking. I said to him, “Let me see what else is here.” I walked down but didn’t see anything, so I went back to this little dog. He seemed friendly enough. I went to the counter with the cage number.

They said, “Don’t get your hopes up. He didn’t go with the last two families that picked him.” I said, “He’s going with me.” If he didn’t go with me, he was going to be euthanized.

There was only … Read the rest
